Forty New York educators from north and west of New York City attended the Marine Corps Educator's Workshop from March 12-15, 2013, as guests of the USMC Recruiting Station Albany.
The Educators' Workshop is an annual awareness program geared towards informing high school and college educators, media representatives and local community leaders about the making of a U.S. Marine. The workshop, organized for the Southeast United States by the Marine Corps recruiting Command's Sixth Marine Corps District and Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, provides educators with a prime opportunity to experience recruit training and have a better understanding of what young men and women from their area endure to earn the title Marine.
During each workshop, guests witness first-hand the rigors of Marine Corps basic training, its methods and the culture behind being one of the world's most elite military organizations. Educators have the opportunity to speak with recruits and see how recruit training affects different people from different parts of the country. In addition, educators experience a recruit's first introduction to a drill instructor during a simulation at recruit reception.
The workshops are a way to promote an open relationship with the educators, which increases their understanding of military service. The workshop is a four-day tour of Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. During the workshops, you experience the transformation of young men and women into confident and professional Marines.
